ANXIETY THERAPY

Is Anxiety Preventing You From Accomplishing Your Goals and Fully Living Your Life?

twigs and plants
  • Are you tired of the alarm bells of anxiety?

  • Is it common for small and relatively manageable concerns to spiral into panic or rumination? Are you having trouble breathing, sleeping, experiencing chest tension, and headaches?

  • Do you worry that you will never be able to manage fearful, catastrophic thinking, or obsession?

Even when the day is done, you may struggle to feel relaxed and content with your accomplishments. Instead, you find yourself mulling over tomorrow’s emails, fretting about your never-ending to-do list, or berating yourself about something that could have gone differently. Maybe it’s hard to wind down and turn off, just to get up again and do it the next day?

Perhaps catastrophic thinking has always been your mode of operation. Or in your family. Many of us are conditioned to always prepare for the worst.

Despite this level of fearful thinking being disruptive to your well-being, part of you would rather be safe than sorry. This results in living in anticipation of what lies ahead as opposed to taking care of what’s needed and being connected to present day life.

Anxiety Can Produce Symptoms That Make Life Uncomfortable

Living with anxiety, you may have noticed physical and cognitive symptoms creeping into every aspect of your life, such as:

  • Negative impact on your work performance and interpersonal relationships

  • Nausea or other digestive issues

  • Severe symptoms like panic attacks—sweating, hyperventilating, intense feelings of fear, racing heartbeat. Or mild symptoms such as muscle tension and aches, jaw clenching, nerve tingling, poor circulation, fatigue, and more.

You may also struggle with insomnia, tossing and turning at night, unable to sleep. Restless nights likely turn into difficult mornings with snooze buttons and extra coffee, ultimately hindering your ability to feel energized and focused to tackle the day.

Or perhaps anxiety prevents you from feeling comfortable in new social situations or at ease in existing relationships. Your partner, friends, and family members may have lamented that you are regularly inattentive and disengaged, or seemingly on edge, irritable, or a little too “charged up”.

Anxiety can quickly drain the joy out of life, resulting in feelings of overwhelm and loss of control. Therapy gives you an opportunity to build better skills, gain psycho-education, address your relationship to it all, and your symptoms.

Many Of Us Struggle With Feelings Of Fear

While anxiety can feel both deeply personal, existential, and extremely urgent, the truth is that regular, excessive worry affects many adults. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental health issue facing our population today.

Why would we not struggle with overwhelming fear and worry? Between the pressure of work, school, parenting, family obligations, mounting responsibilities at home, and the expectation to accept our hardships and move on, there are countless moving parts that can contribute to anxiety. Anxiety is connected to our stress system and learning how to harness our relationship to this aspect of our brain and body is priceless.

Countless outside circumstances remain in addition to our own little personal universe. Social media creates a comparison culture that has us constantly second-guessing ourselves, while increasing global crises and the news cycle keeps us on high alert. Many people feel everything has become an emergency and are operating at a high baseline of anxiety and anticipation.

Anxiety Keeps Us Trapped In Fearful Thinking Patterns

Though a lot of options exist that can help with overcoming anxiety, many people trick themselves into thinking that their only option is panic mode. Whether they avoid seeking help out of fear of stigma, the need to solve problems on their own, or the idea that therapy is for people who have it worse than they do—they inadvertently allow anxiety to control their decisions and self-esteem.

However, tailored and effective anxiety treatment does exist. In therapy, you can find the specific tools you need to manage your symptoms and build a new level of baseline stability to whether these storms.

Anxiety Therapy Gives You The Tools To Feel In Charge And At Peace

When you live with chronic worry, it can be hard to separate meaningful, motivating concerns from unnecessary disturbances. However, a skillful therapist can give you the opportunity to explore your anxiety, identify the source of your fear, and develop strategies to reduce symptoms.

Ultimately, my long-term goal is to help you feel at peace and in control of your life, while accepting what is not in your control.

I have both professional and personal experience with tackling anxiety. I am here to offer a sense of empathy while providing you with a variety of quality, evidence-based treatment approaches.

What To Expect From Therapy Sessions Focused on Anxiety

To begin with, my focus will be to build rapport and instill confidence in the therapeutic relationship so we can create a strong and authentic connection. There are studies that show the strength of the therapeutic bond is what makes the modalities go further. I aim to get to know you as a person, understand your situation, your history, and identify how anxiety is impacting your life.

After my initial assessment, we will work together to…

  • explore the source of your challenges.

  • discuss what you would like to change or do differently.

  • identify specific goals to achieve these changes.

  • prepare a personalized approach to suit your unique needs.

Throughout subsequent therapy sessions, you will likely find you are developing a deeper understanding of where this anxiety originated and how to keep your fears from disrupting life. As we allow for reorganization, your symptoms will ideally become more manageable, tolerable, and reduce over time.

Utilizing A Variety Of Treatment Methods Tailored To Your Unique Needs

I am skilled in a range of evidence-based modalities and therapeutic techniques. Depending on your particular needs, I will utilize the treatment methods that are best for your situation. With the help of these approaches, you will learn the skills to manage your anxiety outside of therapy. You can read more about my training and history on my About Page.

Please be assured, no matter how difficult your struggle has been so far, change is possible. With the right tools and support, anxiety is highly manageable. Through therapy, many of my clients have made great strides in understanding their anxiety, reducing symptoms, and finding permanent relief.

Living in panic mode is not your only option—a life free of incessant worry and physiological anxiety is possible. With therapy, you can learn to flip the switch on anxiety.

How long does counseling for anxiety take?

I take a tailored treatment approach and there is no set timeline for treatment. Typically clients experience relief within 6 months or less, and sometimes up to one year or more. I have worked with clients for short, intensive periods and I have worked with clients who felt the benefit of having a witness and container, sometimes on and off, for an entire decade. We will work together for as long as you need it, targeting anxiety as quickly and effectively as possible.

Perhaps You Are Considering Therapy For Anxiety, But You Still Have Some Concerns…

I am worried that talking about my fears in therapy will worsen my anxiety.

It’s understandable that talking about it may feel intense. While you will spend time reflecting on the roots of your anxiety in therapy, you will also work on actively finding solutions and learning skills to help you get your symptoms under control. Rather than exacerbating your symptoms, ideally this process is empowering and supportive. Usually clients find their quality of life generally improves.

I should be able to get over my anxiety on my own.

Many people delay seeking therapy even if they are tired of living with anxiety, simply because of the stigma around asking for help. There is nothing shameful about working with a therapist. Mental health is under-served in the United States. Trying to overcome anxiety on your own can prolong suffering. The right treatment can help you identify your concerns, manage symptoms, and feel at ease, providing you with lasting tools that will keep your anxiety at bay.
