Holistic Pelvic Self-Care— most people don't understand what this means...
because we've all been conditioned to think anything “down there” is a mysterious area that’s separate from the rest of the body. Aside from abysmal sex ed and groan-worthy articles in Cosmo, most women are entirely disconnected from their pelvic bowl; leaving them with painful or numb sex, awful menstrual cramps, vaginal challenges and emotional wounds that interfere with daily life. Sounds melodramatic? Your mind is about to be blown.
The pelvic area, or pelvic oasis is the central area of a woman’s body. It is the home of many highly complex processes. It initiates menstrual cycles, releases and regulates hormones, creates life, gives birth and is the bodily universe in many healing systems. It’s a powerhouse! You even hold memories and emotional stress here that creates complications for your health and vitality on a daily basis.
The pelvic bowl isn’t just a dark and mysterious zone in your body. It holds tension just like you do in your shoulders and back. At the base of the pelvis are two intersecting bands of muscles that help contain the pelvic bowl. These layers of muscles, nerves and tissue stretch like a hammock from the tailbone at the back to the pubic bone in the front and support your bladder, uterus, vagina, and colon.
You know how that knot between your shoulders makes you cranky? You’ve likely got the same tightness in your pelvic area. And it affects mental clarity, mood, stress and dulls your physical, emotional, and energetic balances— creating imbalances that can lead to infertility, pelvic pain, PMS, menstrual irregularities, fibroids, ovarian cysts, low libido, leaking pee and more. And you thought those things were “the norm,” right?
Let’s back it up. Holistic means “whole” or “all the parts of something.” Now that we understand what the pelvic bowl is, we can explore how it might enhance physical, emotional and spiritual wellness in the whole person.
Holistic Pelvic Care is a gentle combination of physical and energetic tools that evaluate, restore, and enhance balance in the pelvic area. It was first developed by Tami Kent, a holistic women’s health physical therapist who noticed that when working with women’s bodies, compassion and energetic balancing massively boosted the success of physical treatments.
What kind of physical treatments? Think of all the possible issues that can crop up in the pelvic region. Some of them are:
• Painful sex, numbness or sexual dysfunction
• Urinary leakage
• Chronic bladder or vaginal infections
• Postpartum pain and discomfort
• Pelvic congestion
• Uterine prolapse
• Menstrual pain
• Complications from pelvic trauma or abuse
• Pregnancy loss
And that’s just the start. So many women live with these issues not knowing that they can be healed (even on your own)— just by working with the pelvic bowl.
Unfortunately, we’re told by doctors, family and friends to suck it up— that’s just the lottery we won as women. But with the right knowledge, tools, and guidance you can actually heal these issues, increase your pleasure, and reclaim your birthright of inner power. Consider reaching out, getting support, doing self-practice work with the online course, and know that this is in the best interest of the longevity of your life in your body.
